Food security

The food security component aims to develop the food self-sufficiency of the citizens. In addition to food assistance, the component proposes and supports various alternatives that facilitate access to food in sufficient quantity and quality.

Food aid

We offer two kinds of troubleshooting: Emergency Troubleshooting: This is a response to an urgent and timely need for food. This service is offered free of charge, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm. Regular Troubleshooting: This one is designed to help low-income households who are unable to make ends meet.

In order to save money and eat better, collective kitchens are carried out under the supervision and support of a nutritionist. People of all ages and backgrounds cook in respect, pleasure and good humor. The kitchens are held twice a month from 9:00 to 15:00.

Lunchbox

The Lunch Boxes workshops allow 4 and 5 year olds to learn how to cook a meal and a snack that they can enjoy the next day at school. Each child will be able to come once a week for 10 weeks. Through this initiative, Mon Resto Saint-Michel helps equip these young people and their families to make healthier choices throughout their lives.

Processing food

As part of the Collective Impact Project (PIC) of Saint-Michel, food processing workshops have been developed to meet different neighborhood needs. Addressing all neighborhood residents, these workshops present different food preservation techniques to increase food self-sufficiency. These workshops also aim to reduce food waste, create an inventory of frozen fruits and vegetables for various neighborhood food initiatives, and support the community with the products sold.

Collective garden

This alternative allows low-income people to grocery store with respect and dignity. Participants choose the foods they want based on their tastes and needs. A contribution of 10% is required to the families. Two moments are privileged during the year to help disadvantaged families in the Saint-Michel district: back to school and Christmas time. Registrations are public. Monitor the schedule on the site and on the facebook page.

Collective garden

It is a collective gardening space offered since 2006 within Habitations Terrasse Saint-Michel. The collective garden allows the inhabitants to manage the ground to cultivate fresh food. It thus favors the access to fruits and vegetables for 10 families.
